contemplation

I have gone over and over in my mind for months, maybe even years, about having a blog that featured anything but pictures of my family. I didn't want to post with wrong motives. I like to look at other's blogs and observe their creativity and would absolutely hate it if one of my dear friends didn't post every little thing 'cause I would miss way too much of her life.
So I finally decided to post some things that I have been up to and jump into the blogging world.

here goes::

I love to create things I need. I call myself a functional sewer. I am not a huge fan of patterns, I usually just make it and then use it.
I absolutely LOVE colorful things {paper, fabric, pens, ribbon, pictures, the list goes on}, maybe that's why I majored in Graphic Design and had a ton of fun!

My plan:: Share my makings, my thoughts and some everyday life.
{enjoy}

post #10 :: fruity-lemon trifle

I have always loved lemon cake...my grandma made that almost every time we came over for dinner ( as I remember)
So for her birthday I wanted to do the same for her...she is so special to me and doesn't do much (any) cooking these days.
I happened across a set of Pampered Chef Stoneware at the Neighborhood Thrift a while ago...a bunt pan was part of the set. So I was super excited to make her lemon cake in that and surprise her.

Well it didn't turn out how I had hoped and it STUCK!! BOO on that!

beauty from ashes,
lemonade from lemons...
is what I thought

I cut the sad "looking" lemon cake, which still tasted amazing, and used one of my favorite bowls
~ trifle bowl ~
and presto...a favorite new dessert.

recipe below::

make one box of lemon cake (whatever shape you like because you will cut it up later)
cool cake and cut into large bite sized pieces
layer up with cool whip
and fruit of choice
drizzle glaze and add a candle

drizzle topping includes:
powdered sugar and a bit of milk
(ratio is 1/2 cup powdered sugar to 1 Tbl sp milk)
drizzle on top and around the edges to moisten cake

outcome...delightful!

happy happy birthday grandma!

post #8 :: you're invited

one of my favorite things over the years has been to make the invitations to my kiddos birthday parties...
many-a-night spent hunched over a table or stool while punching, pasting and sticking things for their invites and then add one to their baby book

here is one of my favorites...

 I have neither tons of time nor tons of money so I take my bit of creativity, with a smidge of input from the kiddo and get two or three cute papers from the craft store, cut them up and past away.
 I also totally love brads so I try to add some bling with those
I picked some cute fonts, some cute words and printed this on my home printer on vellum and affixed them with those cute crystal brads
 they didn't look quite finished so I got out some cute stamps,
some plain 'ol craft paint and added a "k" for Kirra
then I added a few silver dots along the side of her letter

{the lime green comes out a bit yellow in this pic, not a bumble bee party but a rock star party, smile}
